A regional cooperation network supports the circular economy and sustainable waste management

A regional cooperation network provides support and expert assistance for developing the circular economy and implementing the national waste plan in Southwest Finland, Central Finland, South Karelia and North Karelia. The network works in close cooperation with regional ELY centers.

Power from cooperation groups

Each region includes its own cooperation group into which the core interest groups relevant to waste management have been collected. The purpose of the cooperation groups is to catalyze regional administration, companies and residents towards more resource-efficient operations, thereby promoting the implementation of the relevant waste plans. The groups also issue reports on the progress of the circular economy in their regions.

Each cooperation group is led by a regional coordinator tasked with kicking off new measures and activities to improve material efficiency and the recycling rate. The coordinators forge connections between representatives of municipalities, companies, administrative bodies and the general public. They communicate and provide guidance on the tools and methods related to the circular economy and support new projects.

Roadmaps towards the circular economy

The cooperation groups are preparing a roadmap for implementing the National Waste Plan and promoting the circular economy in their regions. The work accounts for regional strengths and challenges. The cooperation group works to influence public and private decision-making in their areas, in order to ensure that the plans laid down in the roadmaps are brought to fruition.
