Goals of municipalities, regions and businesses

Regional cooperation is important in promoting circular economy. In the Circwaste project, Southwest Finland, Central Finland, South Karelia and North Karelia prepared regional road maps to circular economy.

Many municipalities have set goals and taken action to improve their material efficiency and cut back on waste. The pioneering municipalities in the Circwaste project are currently preparing their municipal road maps to circular economy which will be completed by 2021.

The municipalities in the FISU (Finnish Sustainable Communities) network are striving toward carbon neutrality, zero waste and globally sustainable consumption by 2050, and resource efficiency road maps have been prepared to meet these goals.

Many businesses have monitored the environmental impact of their operations and products, set goals and developed new, more sustainable processes, services and practices for a long time. Available tools include material and energy reviews and environmental standards (ISO or EMAS).
